We provide support that includes:
•conducting and writing assessment reports which identify the lagging skills, unsolved problems and neurodifferences which may be contributing to behaviours of concern. Please note that we are NOT an ABA service and do not use the ABA /"Functional Behaviour Assessment" approach. As we listen to autistic voices with lived experience and trauma from ABA, we instead align more closely with assessment based on current research in neuroscience, collaboration and CPS.
•identifying skills, strengths and areas for further development
o how to collaborate with kids and go deeper to better understand factors that may be contributing to the behaviour
o service or system capacity to support your child
o recommendations that address environmental issues / trigger factors for behaviour
o helping kids learn to notice the signals their body is giving them
o situational management strategies
o skill development of staff to better understand current research and apply it to your child's needs
o development of strategies that address the behaviours of concern within the environmental and resource constraints of your child's support system
o training of staff/carers in the implementation of developed strategies
We monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies and plan implementation. This is done collaboratively, with you and your child's team.
Please note that Best Behaved Kids is not an ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) based practice. Our approach is centred on the evidence around current neuroscience research and the brain-body connection. We utilise an approach that is non-punitive, non-adverserial, non-exclusionary and trauma informed. We believe that "Kids do well if they can" and are thankful to Dr Ross Greene for his evidence-based research and work with children who are displaying behaviours of concern.
